Our story: driven by lived experience

At Collectively Changing Corrections, we believe that true change comes from those who have lived the experience. Learn about our unique foundation, our dedicated team, and our unwavering commitment to transforming the corrections system in Missouri and beyond.

Born from direct impact

Collectively Changing Corrections was founded by individuals directly impacted by incarceration, including formerly incarcerated people, their loved ones, and former corrections professionals. We firmly believe that those closest to the system are best equipped to lead its transformation. Our dream is to create a corrections system that is fair, accountable, and rehabilitative, strengthening families, preparing individuals for successful reintegration, and treating everyone with dignity.

Diverse voices, singular vision

Our group unites incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals, family members, community advocates, and people with valuable corrections experience. This powerful combination of lived experience and practical knowledge enables us to identify real problems, elevate often unheard stories, and pursue solutions grounded in accountability, education, rehabilitation, and meaningful community connection.

Effective change through direct insight

Individuals directly affected by the corrections system possess an unparalleled understanding of how policies truly operate in daily life, where support systems falter, and which changes will make a significant difference. Their leadership ensures our advocacy is responsive and credible. We blend personal testimony with education, community engagement, and evidence-based practices, ensuring our reform efforts reflect both human needs and practical realities.

Nothing changes if nothing changes. Together, impacted people and communities can build a more accountable and rehabilitative corrections system.
